Welcome to Our Family Website

The purpose of this website is provide a space for sharing stories, histories, pedigrees, photos, etc. of Edward and Katherine (Wild) Koelliker along with their ancestors and descendants.

Edward Koelliker was born on November 18, 1825 in the town of Herrliberg, Switzerland. He was Christened on November 20, 1825 in the Church at Staefa, Switzerland. His parents were Conrad Koelliker and Anna Magdalena Ammann. Edward was the fourth child born to Conrad and Magdalena.

In 1819, their first child Verena was born. She was followed by twins, Barbara and Heinrich, who were born in September 1822. The twins both died in December of the same year. Edward was born next in 1825. His youngest sister, Caroline, was born in 1830.

Herrliberg is a beautiful town on the edge of Lake Zurich. Edward may have played there as a small boy--fishing or skipping rocks on the water. On September 1, 1852 Edward married Elizabetha Staedli from the town of Bassersdorf. His occupation was a hospital worker in Zurich.

Elizabeth was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 21, 1821. Edward was baptized on October 16, 1862. "During this time period there was wide-spread oppostion to Mormonism in Switzerland. Missionaries and members alike were subjected to many forms of persecution, violence and imprisonment."

Edward and Elizabeth desired live where they could live their religion in peace and they immigrated to the United State in 1871. They left Liverpool July 26, 1871 from Liverpool and arrived in New York September 6, 1871. They lived first at 179 South Temple in Salt Lake City and then moved to Cottonwood Creek in Butler, Utah.

On July 21, 1881 Edward married Katherine Wild a young woman of 24 years who had immigrated from Switzerland in June of that year. Katherine and Edward were blessed with four children: Julia Ann (1882), Edward (1885) Hyrum Joseph (1885), and Conrad (167. Julia Ann married Robert Crosby and lived on the family farm until her death in 1970. Conrad married Edith Camill Hawley and his numerous posterity lives in the Mountain States, most of them in Utah and Nevada.

Edward died at the age of 74 in Butler, Utah. Katherine died in 1935 at the age of 77. They traveled far from their mountain homes in Switzerland to settle on the foothills of the beautiful Wasatch mountains of Utah. They planted and farmed beside Big Cottonwood Creek and raised a good family. Their influence will continue to be felt in the lives of their descendants and they will be honored for their courage and faith. (Additional histories will be available soon on this website.)
